Introduction
Muslims consider the Holy Quran as their sacred scripture, which outlines the laws, commandments, and moral codes for their social and moral behavior. It offers a comprehensive religious philosophy in the Arabic language and is a collection of verbal revelations that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SA) received over 23 years.
Comprising of 114 chapters, each chapter, called a Surah in Arabic, consists of individual verses that vary in length. Some are only a few lines, while others stretch for several pages. Remarkably, the text of the Holy Quran has remained unchanged for over 1500 years. Every copy of the Quran circulating worldwide is identical, down to a single letter. This is not surprising, given that God Himself declares in the Holy Quran that He is its guardian: ﴿ إِنَّا نَحۡنُ نَزَّلۡنَا ٱلذِّكۡرَ وَإِنَّا لَهُۥ لَحَٰفِظُونَ ﴾ [ الحجر: 9]
“Surely it is We Who have revealed the Exposition, and surely it is We Who are its guardians” (surat Al-Ḥijr ayat 9).
To Muslims, the Quran represents the Word of God and serves as complete guidance for all of humanity. It contains a wealth of information on God, His attributes, and humanity’s relationship to Him. Additionally, it offers directives for Muslims, historical accounts of prophets and people, arguments for accepting Muhammad as a genuine Prophet, and provides good news for believers while warning disbelievers.
Zakat is one of the obligatory acts in Islam and is one of its pillars. And it is the most important after the declaration of faith and prayer. Its obligation is evidenced by the Book of Allah. And the Sunnah of His Messenger [salla Allahu alaihi wasallam] as well as the consensus of Muslims. Whoever denies its obligation is considered an apostate and is given the opportunity to repent. If they do not repent, they are to be executed. Whoever withholds or diminishes it is one of the wrongdoers who deserves the punishment of Allah.
